Monarch Butterfly Project

In this project we'll examine raising and releasing Monarch Butterflies. You can do this project at home on your own, with a classroom, or via distance learning with our Learning at Home Monarch Host Kit.

Part 1: Background Information

Raising Monarch Butterflies

Did you know a Monarch caterpillar eats 200 times it's birth weight in just 2 weeks? In this video, we'll show you how we raise Monarch butterflies at Sager Family Farm.


Monarch Life Cycle Stages

In this video, we'll examine how a Monarch Butterfly goes from an egg, to a larva, to a pupa, and finally to an adult butterfly!

Part 2: Worksheets

These worksheets will help you measure data about your Monarchs as well as help students solidify concepts.


Monarch Release Data

Grade Level: 

Pre K + (with Parent Help)

Record information about how and where you released the Monarchs you raised. If you send this back to us, we'll record it in our annual statistics!


Monarch Measuring

Grade Level: 

2nd Grade +

Measure the growth of your Monarch Caterpillars. Practice measuring skills, or even use the data to create a graph.


Monarch Life Cycle

Kindergarten - 3rd Grade

Draw a picture of each life cycle stage of the Monarch Butterfly.
